3 killed in single-car crash while fleeing Troy, Missouri police

The car was on fire by the time an ambulance arrived. One person was still alive and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition

Three people were killed and one person was rushed to the hospital after their car flipped and caught fire while they tried to escape Troy, Missouri police Monday.

The Troy Police Department said the Missouri State Highway Patrol tried to pull the car over for speeding on southbound Highway 61. The car started driving more than 130 mph and the trooper terminated the pursuit before Troy city limits.

A Troy officer positioned at Highway 61 and Highway 47 saw the car passing on the highway’s shoulder and wearing through traffic at 130 mph, the department said.

The officer started at pursuit that traveled into St. Charles County. At the Highway 61/Interstate 70 interchange, the car lost control and struck a guard rail. It then spun off the roadway of Highway 61 and onto the westbound lanes of Interstate 70, where it caught fire.

Three people were killed in the crash, but no other information about them has been released.

The St. Charles County Ambulance District said the car was on fire by the time they arrived on the scene of the crash. Three people inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth person was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

As of Monday night, that person was still in critical condition with stable vitals, the Troy Police Department said.

All westbound lanes of I-70 were closed at Highway 61 for an investigation, but the road has since reopened.
