En un <a href=\"https:\/\/crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov\/Api\/Public\/ViewPublication\/812494\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">informe publicado en 2018<\/a>, se\u00f1alaron que los cinturones de seguridad salvan vidas y que muchos de los fallecidos en accidentes de tr\u00e1fico no llevaban puesto el cintur\u00f3n. Solo en 2016, por ejemplo, el 44% de los ocupantes de veh\u00edculos de pasajeros que murieron en accidentes de tr\u00e1fico no llevaban abrochado el cintur\u00f3n de seguridad en el momento del accidente.<\/p>\n<p>La administraci\u00f3n se asoci\u00f3 con las fuerzas del orden locales en su <em>Click It or Ticket<\/em> para animar a la gente a abrocharse el cintur\u00f3n. Entre 2007 y 2016, el uso subi\u00f3 del 82,5% al 90,1%. El siguiente porcentaje m\u00e1s alto de ocupantes sin cintur\u00f3n se daba en el grupo de edad de 25 a 34 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n parece que los hombres son menos propensos a usar el cintur\u00f3n de seguridad que las mujeres. En 2016, el 52% de los hombres fallecidos no llevaban puesto el cintur\u00f3n. Entre las mujeres fallecidas, el 40 % no llevaba cintur\u00f3n. En 2016 murieron casi el doble de hombres que de mujeres.<\/p>\n<p>Los conductores de camionetas tambi\u00e9n deben tener m\u00e1s cuidado. El 60% de los conductores de camionetas que fallecieron no llevaban puesto el cintur\u00f3n de seguridad, frente al 53% de los conductores de todoterrenos, el 42% de los conductores de turismos y el 37% de los conductores de furgonetas.<\/p>\n<p>En el otro lado del espectro, se descubri\u00f3 que los cinturones de seguridad hab\u00edan salvado la vida de unos 14.668 ocupantes de veh\u00edculos de pasajeros de cinco a\u00f1os o m\u00e1s en 2016, mientras que unos 328 ni\u00f1os menores de cinco a\u00f1os se salvaron gracias al uso de sistemas de retenci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h4>El cintur\u00f3n de seguridad salva vidas<\/h4>\n<p>La NHTSA quiere recordar a conductores y pasajeros que el cintur\u00f3n de seguridad \"es la tecnolog\u00eda de seguridad de veh\u00edculos m\u00e1s eficaz\".
