According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), over 1,000 people died in Missouri traffic accidents in 2021. Missouri has not surpassed 1,000 deaths since 2006. MoDOT Director, Patrick McKenna says, “These fatalities are unacceptable, alarming, and preventable.” He emphasizes that a lot of these accidents are avoidable and encourages drivers to wear their seatbelts and to not use their cell phones while driving.
