Show Me State has high number of DUI arrests

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

Buckle up, Kansas City.

According to data collected by SmartAsset, drivers in Missouri are the third worst in the country. The Show Me State tied with California, according the financial technology website, behind Mississippi and Tennessee and ahead of New Mexico.

SmartAsset used four factors when ranking states in its new report – the percent of drivers with insurance, number of DUIs per driver, average number of deaths per miles driven and how often residents Google terms like “traffic ticket” and “speeding ticket.”

According to the data, Missouri has 86 percent of its drivers insured – a solid number – but it also has a high number of DUI arrests per 1,000 drivers with 4.58.

SmartAsset said Kansas drivers are among the best in the country. The Sunflower State was 38th on the list. Massachusetts has the safest drivers, followed by Vermont, Nebraska, Connecticut and New York, according to SmartAsset.
